Pork Checkoff Sponsors Swine Education Scholarships

The Pork Checkoff's science and technology department is sponsoring a new scholarship program for college sophomores, juniors and seniors. Applicants must be pursuing a career in swine production, or plan to attend graduate school. Twenty-five $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who meet the qualifications during the 2006-2007 school year. Applicants considering a graduate degree program in a swine science discipline as a first-choice option are preferred.

"The Pork Checkoff Pork Industry Scholarship is a great opportunity to reach out and help today's youth," said Mark Boggess, director of animal science of Pork Checkoff's science and technology department. "Our member producers recognize the need to promote the development of young leaders in the pork industry and have really gotten behind this scholarship program. By encouraging students to pursue higher education and assisting them with finances, we are building leaders and creating a more secure future for the pork industry."
