U.S. Meat Production Sets All-Time High

USDA production reports released on April 27th indicate that 2005 was a record year for U.S. meat and poultry production. Gross 2005 income from cattle and calves, hogs and pigs, and sheep and lambs totaled $65.323 billion, compared to $62.835 billion in 2004.

According to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange's Daily Livestock Report (DLR), the value of U.S. hog production was a record $13.644 billion and cash receipts for hog sales also set a record at $15.047 billion for the year. This represented increases of 4.4% and 5% respectively from 2004. The cattle and poultry sectors also set records in 2005.
