Science and Technology Director Named By NPPC

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 12, 2006 - The National Pork Producers Council has named Annamaria Castiglia as Director of Science and Technology in its Washington, D.C., office.

"Annamaria brings to this position a wealth of knowledge on animal health issues and other science and technology matters that will be beneficial to the pork industry," said Kirk Ferrell, NPPC's vice president of public policy. "She's an experienced veterinarian, knows the animal agriculture industry and knows Capitol Hill. She will be an important addition to our office and a valuable asset to pork producers."

Most recently, Castiglia was a technical leader in the animal health field for DuPont Chemical Solutions. Previously, she was a technical veterinary manager for Del Monte Foods and vice president of scientific affairs for Phibro Animal Health. She also served as executive vice president of the Foundation for Biomedical Research and in various positions with Roche. From 1983 to 1994, Castiglia was a staff veterinarian with the North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, N.Y.

Castiglia received her doctorate in veterinary medicine and surgery from the University of Bologna in Bologna, Italy, and did her undergraduate studies in the pre-veterinary program at Ohio State University. She has done post-graduate work on various animal health issues. Castiglia is scheduled to begin her duties at NPPC April 17.
