AASV Foundation Funded Research: Publication Available
January 25, 2024 — AASV Staff
In 2020, Drs. Edison Magalhaes and co-investigators at Iowa State University were awarded $23,256 to fund the project, "Measuring the effect of diseases on the productivity of growing pigs raised in field conditions." A new publication is available.
The overarching goal of this project was to develop an automated on-going model to allow veterinarians to measure disease-associated determinants of swine wean-to-finish mortality.
Two presentations were made at the 2021 AASV Annual Meeting:
- Consolidating diverse and dispersed datasets to reveal production system-specific drivers of swine performance under field conditions
- Measuring the effect of disease on closeout performance
Published 11 Jan 2024 in Frontiers in Veterinary Science: Utilizing productivity and health breeding-to-market information along with disease diagnostic data to identify pig mortality risk factors in a U.S. swine production system
