Obituary

Ernest Wayne Miller, 91, of Pigeon, went to be with our Lord Jesus, peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Scheurer Health in Pigeon.

Wayne was born November 7, 1931 in Detroit to the late Ernest and Mae (Filion) Miller. In 1949 he graduated from Bad Axe High School and then attended Michigan State College, where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1955. He married Doreen McLean June 28, 1952 at the Bad Axe Methodist Church.

Wayne practiced Veterinary Medicine for over 50 years. He loved animals, big or small, and the farmers he worked with. It was not a job for him, it was his passion, as well as the local community that embraced him in his profession. One of his greatest joys was his log cabin in Mio. Many wonderful family memories, snowmobiling, hunting and sleeping in the double bunk beds handcrafted by Wayne. He also enjoyed hosting the entire family at the Bay View cottage in Petoskey and attending the Young Americans Dinner Theater at Boyne Highlands.

Wayne was a member of the Thumb Veterinary Association (Past President), Michigan Veterinary Association, National Veterinary Association, American Association of Bovine Practitioners, a Boy Scout Leader, and Pigeon First United Methodist Church.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 70 years Doreen; children Kathy (Larry) Neuman of Caro, Carol (Bill) Weitzel of Pigeon, David of Dearborn Heights and Robert (Susan) of Liberty, Missouri; grandchildren Ryan (Karin) Neuman, Craig Weitzel, Allyson (Aaron) Joyce, Kara (Andy) Toteff, Eric (Joy) Weitzel and Kendall Miller; great-grandchildren Madelyn, Nolan, Maisey, Austin, Marcus, C.J., Brynn, Korbyn, Leah, and Cooper. He was preceded in death by his siblings Beverly Ayer and Robert Miller.
