People on the Move: Dr. Albert Canturri

The Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) is pleased to welcome a new food animal pathologist. Dr. Albert Canturri was born and raised in Andorra. He obtained his DVM from the University of Zaragoza, Spain, in 2014, went on to complete a residency in anatomic pathology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, and obtained Board Certification by the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (Diplomate ECVP) in 2019. He then started his PhD at the Mycoplasma Research Laboratory of the University of Minnesota, advised by Dr. Maria Pieters. His research focuses on culture-independent determination of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae viability and its implications for disease control and pathogen eradication. Dr. Canturri has been working as a part-time pathologist for the VDL since 2020 and was recently hired as a full time Assistant Professor in the Veterinary Population Medicine department and a Food Animal Diagnostician at the VDL.
