Call for Abstracts due Aug 1: AAEV Applied Animal & Public Health Research & Extension Symposium

The American Association of Extension Veterinarians (AAEV) seeks presenters for their 19th Annual Applied Animal and Public Health Research and Extension Symposium in National Harbor, MD. Deadline for Abstracts has been extended to Aug. 1, 2023.

Have you recently worked on a project or developed resources related to animal or public health? Would you like to share it as a 15-minute presentation with an enthusiastic audience? The American Association of Extension Veterinarians (AAEV) seeks presenters for their 19th Annual Applied Animal and Public Health Research and Extension Symposium in National Harbor, MD.

The Symposium will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 3:00-6:00 pm Eastern time, during the 127th U.S. Animal Health Association (USAHA)/66th American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) Annual Meeting (National Harbor, MD).

In-person presentations will be given preference in the selection process, with options for posters and a few pre-recorded presentations with live Q&A during the symposium. A remote option for AAEV members to attend the symposium may also be available. Registration for the USAHA or AAVLD meeting is encouraged, but not required to attend/present at the symposium. Abstracts should:

  • Highlight an animal or public health topic applicable to veterinarians involved in extension, regulatory, academic, or diagnostic careers.
  • Contain preliminary/concluding description of the outcome and significance of the work.
  • NOT exceed 350 words.
  • Format requirements: The abstract should have one-inch margins and use Arial 10-point font. Title should be centered and in bold type. Authors should be centered (initials followed by last name) below the title; author locations should be placed directly below the author(s)' names. Superscript numbers may be used to designate different locations. Abstracts are final upon submission. Abstracts will be shared with attendees and posted on the AAEV website.

IMPORTANT DATES:

August 1: Abstracts due as an e-mail attachment (MS Word compatible file or PDF) addressed to Drs. Anne Lichtenwalner (anne.lichtenwalner@maine.edu) and Lew Strickland (lstrick5@utk.edu).

August 15: Authors of selected abstracts notified, designation as speakers or posters only, and assignment of scheduled time for live Q&A, if accepted as either a recorded presentation or a poster. Recording guidance will be provided.

October 1 (For virtual presenters only): Presentation recordings of 15 minutes or less are due to Drs. Lichtenwalner (anne.lichtenwalner@maine.edu) and Strickland (lstrick5@utk.edu).

October 15: Presenters should be available in-person for live presentation or online for Q&A for their presentation between 3 pm and 6 pm Eastern time, or as determined by the co-chairs.

There is no funding for travel nor honorarium for presenters. Veterinary student presenters are encouraged to apply for an AAEV travel grant. Up to two travel grants of up to $500 per applicant will be provided by the American Association of Extension Veterinarians for eligible students on a competitive basis. This amount is intended to reimburse some of the expenses (transportation, lodging, food, etc.) incurred to attend the Applied Animal and Public Health Research and Extension Symposium and present an abstract.
