Position Announcement: Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor in Livestock Production Medicine

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, Assistant or Associate Professor in the Integrated Food Animal Management Systems (IFAMS) section of the department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine.

Professional opportunities

We seek someone who desires to be a team player and is interested in utilizing their research and teaching to promote advancements in food animal health and wellbeing with an emphasis on applying digital technology to improve animal health. The ability and desire to impact the production livestock industries and collaborate with them are imperative. The successful candidate will play a key role in growing the college's online learning programs for professionals including the Master of Veterinary Science program, The Executive Veterinary Program (EVP), and short courses for veterinarians and producers. In addition they will engage in the food animal teaching program in the DVM curriculum, including developing elective courses, summer programs, and novel teaching experiences across the curriculum. The candidate will have professional development and advancement opportunities within the Department, College, and University.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have the ability and desire to develop a world-class applied research and knowledge transfer program. Their discovery program should address the needs of livestock-based food production, preferably pork production. The successful candidate is expected to build research partnerships with key industry players, with a preference for swine production systems, and focus on areas of college and campus strength, such as infectious disease and digital health to advance the science and practice of herd-based, food animal medicine.

Teaching and knowledge transfer to promote lifelong learning will be more than 50% of the successful candidate's responsibilities. Therefore, the position requires a demonstrated desire and ability to teach, including building and delivering learning materials and courses that address real-time professional and industry needs. A willingness to instruct students with varied experiences is mandatory as part of the teaching expectations in the veterinary curriculum.

Candidates must have a DVM degree or equivalent and advanced training in research design. The preferred candidate will have obtained a Ph.D. and experience in applying digital tools to improve animal health in livestock production.

Duties

This position is a 100% appointment in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine. The appointment will be full-time and a tenured academic position with a starting date no later than August 16, 2023.

Salary

Commensurate with applicant's experience and qualifications.
