Position Announcement: Director, On-farm Food Safety

Farmland Foods, a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, is seeking applications for the Director of On-farm Food Safety. This position will be responsible for vision, development, implementation and ongoing management of activities and programs related to Process Verification, Certification of on-farm practices and Animal Handling/Welfare. Additional opportunity to conduct in-company research is available.

The qualified candidate with have a DVM, PhD or MS degree with 10+ years of related work experience; some swine industry (live animal production) experience is a must. We require a demonstrated knowledge of, and expertise in, animal welfare issues. Additional qualifications desired: solid interpersonal skills, strong leadership ability, excellent verbal and written communication skills, exceptional computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and understanding of database management). Must be able to travel and work in packing plants and swine livestock facilities. Ability to communicate to pork producers, plant personnel, retail and food service customers and the consumer is a must.
