Position Announcement: Director of Science and Techology

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) in Washington, D.C. seeks a Director of Science and Technology to develop and implement policies and programs for a broad cross-section of issues facing U.S. pork producers.

The Director joins a team of government relations professionals and delivers strong leadership and vision in the science and technology mission area. Responsible primarily for the daily handling of animal health and production issues (antimicrobial availability and usage; animal health and handling concerns; mandatory animal identification; traceability, food safety, public health, and agroterrorism). Provide scientific and technical support on international trade matters (research, analysis, and advocacy of scientific and technical issues as they relate to obtaining and maintaining market access for U.S. pork exports; and in trade problems that arise separate from the negotiation of new trade agreements).

Performs high-profile liaison and representation functions to explain and advocate NPPC policy and programs to its membership, allied industry stakeholders, other livestock groups and agriculture organizations, and state, Federal, foreign, and international regulatory authorities.

Requirements: DVM or PhD in a field associated with Animal Science or equivalent relevant area of study; 6-10 years relevant expertise and experience in industry, private practice, or government/regulatory body; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to set out a coherent argument in presentations and group interactions; advanced writing skills and experience with conceiving and implementing strategic responses to critical issues.
