Call for Abstracts: AAEV Applied Animal and Public Health Research and Extension Symposium

Have you recently worked on a project or developed a resource related to animal or public health? Would you like to share it as a 15-minute presentation with an enthusiastic audience? The American Association of Extension Veterinarians (AAEV) seeks presenters for their hybrid 18th Annual Applied Animal and Public Health Research and Extension Symposium in Minneapolis, MN. Abstracts are due 15 July 2022.

The Symposium will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2022, from 3:00-6:00pm Central time, during the 126th U.S. Animal Health Association (USAHA)/ 65th American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, MN. In-person presentations will be given preference in the selection process, and there will be an option for a few pre-recorded presentations with live Q&A during the symposium. A remote option for AAEV members to attend the symposium will also be available. Registration for the USAHA or AAVLD meeting is encouraged, but not required to attend/present at the symposium. Abstracts should:

  • Highlight an animal or public health topic applicable to an audience of veterinarians involved in extension, regulatory, academic, or diagnostic careers.
  • Contain a preliminary or concluding description of the outcome or significance of the work.
  • NOT exceed 350 words.
  • Meet format requirements: The body of the abstract should have one-inch margins and use Arial 10-point font. Center and bold the title. Center the name of the author(s) below the title with initials followed by last name. The location of author(s) should be placed directly below the author(s) name. Superscript numbers may be used to designate different locations for authors. Abstract will be considered final upon submission and shared with AAVLD/USAHA attendees and posted on the AAEV website.

IMPORTANT DATES:
July 15: Abstracts due as an e-mail attachment (MS Word compatible file or PDF) to Dr. Hayley Springer (hrs131@psu.edu).
August 1: Authors of selected abstracts notified with scheduled time for live Q&A.
October 1 (For virtual presenters only): Presentation recordings of 15 minutes or less due to Dr. Springer. Recording guidance will be provided.
October 9: Presenters should be available in-person for live presentation or online for Q&A after their presentation between 3pm and 6pm Central time.

FUNDING
While there is no funding for travel nor an honorarium for presenters, veterinary student presenters are encouraged to apply for an AAEV travel grant. Up to two travel grants of up to $500 per applicant will be provided by the American Association of Extension Veterinarians for eligible students on a competitive basis. This amount is intended to reimburse some of the expenses (transportation, lodging, food, etc.) incurred to attend the Applied Animal and Public Health Research and Extension Symposium and present an abstract.
