Position Announcement: Supervisory Veterinary Medical Officer

The USDA APHIS Center for Veterinary Biologics seeks applicants for the position of Supervisory Veterinary Medical Officer. This position serves as Director of the Policy, Evaluation and Licensing unit of the Center for Veterinary Biologics, Diagnostics & Biologics of Veterinary Services sharing full responsibility for planning, coordinating, and implementing program-wide activities concerning the regulation of veterinary biological products and makes recommendations on program issues to the CVB Director.

Duties

The duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides leadership in the development of complex scientific test standards for evaluating the purity, safety, and potency of veterinary biologics.
  • Develops, establishes and administers licensing requirements and standards for biologics production facilities.
  • Formulate and execute guidelines of field distribution and evaluation of experimental veterinary biologics including development and review of environmental assessments prior to releasing new product.
  • Establishing and implementing scientific processes and procedures to prevent any harmful residue in meat producing animals from the use of veterinary biological products .
  • Formulates rules, regulations, and various notices of requirements and guidelines, governing preparation, testing, labeling, and issuing licenses/permits for distributing veterinary biological product
  • Development and implementation of requirements, policies, and procedures for conducting risk assessments for the importation of veterinary biological products.
  • Administrating requirements for labeling and advertising used by licensees distributing veterinary biological products.
  • Coordinates licensing activities with management in the development of scientific methods and procedures for the evaluation of products during the licensing process.
  • Supervising subordinates more than 25% of the time including, but not limited to, recruitment, selecting, appraising, rewarding, addressing performance problems, and fostering an inclusive workplace.
