Nominations Open for AASV District Directors

Have you ever considered serving the AASV in a governing role? Or is there a member you would like to see in a leadership position within AASV? Take note: nominations for the office of AASV District Director are currently being sought in two AASV districts. Each eligible voter in District 3 (AR, KY, MO) and District 7 (AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, KS, ID, MT, NM, NV, OK, OR, TX, UT, WA, WY) has been sent an email message containing the nomination link. Eligible voters will also see the nomination link when they log into their AASV member account at aasv.org/members. The last date to submit or change a nomination is January 15.

In both districts the current directors, Drs. Gregory Cline and Megan Potter, have served two 3-year terms of office and are not eligible for re-election.

Potential candidates must be Active (veterinarian) AASV members residing in the district to be represented. Affiliate, Associate, and Student Members are not eligible to hold office or vote. In each district, the two nominees receiving the most nominations will be placed on the ballot, subject to their consent to serve.

Each newly elected director will be invited to observe the spring 2022 board meeting in a non-voting capacity and will serve a three-year term of office that begins at the conclusion of the meeting, scheduled for April 21.

The AASV district directors (eleven in all), along with the officers, form the governing board of the AASV; see aasv.org/aasv/contacts.html for the current board roster and district apportionment. The Board of Directors meets twice annually (typically in March/April and September/October - often in Des Moines or Perry, Iowa, but lately by teleconference due to COVID-19) to set policies and conduct association business. Minutes of past board meetings are available for review at aasv.org/aasv/board.htm. Occasionally, the board conducts additional conference calls or e-mail discussions.
