Position Announcement: Chief Veterinarian

The National Pork Board is seeking a Chief Veterinarian to serve as the National Pork Board's (NPB) leader and spokesperson in the areas of swine disease, animal health, swine science, and swine research and also serve as an expert in the area of foreign animal disease (FAD) knowledge, prevention, preparation, response and recovery.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Focus on the health and disease status of the US swine herd with special emphasis on FAD threats.
  • Partner with domestic and foreign government officials as well as with state pork associations, allied industry, other veterinarians and pork producers to ensure any issues that could negatively or positively impact the US swine herd are clearly known, adequately researched and effectively communicated to the Board of Directors and industry.
  • Lead and manage a team of professionals dedicated to keeping the US swine herd safe from threats and support opportunities for industry growth.

Job Requirements:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree and current license to practice.
  • Min 10 years' experience in a leadership role in the swine disease, swine health, and FAD field.
  • Previous work experience and strong relationships with state animal health officials at the USDA is highly desired.
  • Approximately 30-40% travel may be required.

Skills Desired:

  • Clear concise communicator, presenter and spokesperson to industry, media and consumers.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading direct reports, cross-functional teams, task forces, committees and/or work groups and be able to use indirect influence to accomplish goals and objectives set by the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Field experience practicing veterinary medicine.
