Student Opportunity: CDC Epidemiology Elective Program

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is now recruiting medical and veterinary students to complete elective rotations in January 2022 and March 2022 through the Epidemiology Elective Program (EEP). This program offers 6- or 8- week rotations, which introduce students to applied epidemiology and public health. Students interested in pursuing a public health career, the CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS), or how to integrate public health into their training and practice should apply! Applications for the 2022 program are due March 31, 2021.

What do students do on their rotation?

Students clinicians can

  • Learn applied epidemiology while investigating real-world public health problems
  • Gain hands on experience in CDC responses to infectious disease outbreaks, natural disasters, chronic diseases, and health equity
  • Contribute to CDC publications and guidelines of major public health importance
  • Work alongside CDC subject matter experts

Who can apply?

To be eligible for the Epidemiology Elective Program (EEP), students must be:

  • a U.S. citizen
  • a medical or veterinary student when applying (candidate for DVM or VMD)
  • enrolled full-time in a U.S.-accredited medical or veterinary school located in the United States, with at least 2 years completed by July 1, 2021. The school must be accredited by one of the following:
    • Liaison Committee on Medical Education
    • American Osteopathic Association
    • American Veterinary Medical Association
  • available for one of the 2022 set rotations:
    • Rotation A: January 18 - February 25, 2022 (6 weeks)
    • Rotation B: January 18 - March 11, 2022 (8 weeks)
    • Rotation C: March 28 - May 6, 2022 (6 weeks)
    • Rotation D: March 28 - May 20, 2022 (8 weeks)
