AASV Director Nominations Close January 15

Nominations are open for the office of AASV District Director in four AASV districts and must be submitted by January 15. Log into your Member Account today to enter - and submit - your nomination. Nominations are being conducted electronically. Each eligible voter in District 1 (northeastern US), 4 (Indiana and Michigan), 6 (Iowa), and 8 (Nebraska and South Dakota) was sent an email message in December that contained the nomination link. Eligible voters may also access the nomination link by logging into their AASV member account at aasv.org/members.
In Districts 1 and 4, the current directors, Drs. Melissa Billing and Darryl Ragland, have served one 3-year term in office and are eligible to serve a second term. In District 6, Dr. Locke Karriker has already served two terms and is not eligible for re-election. In District 8, Dr. Monte Fuhrman has moved out of the district so a new director will be elected.
Potential candidates must be Active (veterinarian) AASV members residing in the district to be represented (Affiliate, Associate, and Student Members are not eligible to hold office or vote). In each district, the two nominees receiving the most nominations will be placed on the ballot, subject to their consent to serve.
In District 8, the new director will begin service immediately. In the other districts, any newly elected directors will be invited to observe the spring 2021 board meeting in a non-voting capacity and will serve a three-year term of office that begins at the conclusion of the meeting, scheduled for April 8.
The AASV district directors (eleven in all), along with the officers, form the governing board of the AASV; see aasv.org/aasv/contacts.html for the current board roster and district apportionment. The Board of Directors meets twice annually (typically in March/April and September/October - often in Des Moines or Perry, Iowa, but lately by teleconference due to COVID-19) to set policies and conduct association business. Minutes of past board meetings are available for review at aasv.org/aasv/board.htm. Occasionally, the board conducts additional conference calls or e-mail discussions.
