NAHMS Swine Study Moving to 2021

The National Animal Health Monitoring System (NAHMS) Swine Study, originally scheduled to begin this summer, has been postponed to 2021.

The NAHMS Swine Study focuses on the health, health practices and biosecurity employed by swine producers in this country. These confidential national studies have been occurring every 5-8 years for 30 years. National estimates of this type have found use in trade negotiations and providing objective information to the swine industry, policymakers and researchers of all types.

New 2021 Timeline:

  • Small Component (operations with less than 1,000 head): Mail/Web self-administration from 5/31/2021-7/2/2021 with a reminder mailed out 6/14/2021 and follow up Caller Assisted Telephone interview for nonrespondents from 7/6/2021-7/30/2021.
  • Large component (1,000 or more head): Mail out selection letters the week of 7/5/2021. National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) Face to Face interviews 7/12/2021-8/20/2021. USDA APHIS Veterinary Services Face to Face interviews and Biologic collections 10/1/21-1/29/22.
