Get to Know Your AASV District Director – Jeff Kurt

Finishing out his second term as the District 9 AASV Director next week, Dr. Jeff Kurt represents members from Minnesota and North Dakota.

Dr. Kurt received his DVM from Iowa State University in 2002. He has been an AASV member since joining as a student in 1998. In fact, he began his leadership service to AASV as a student when he was elected the ISU Student AASV Chapter President. He wanted to continue his leadership in the organization as a board member to represent private practitioners in his district.

Dr. Kurt wants everyone to remember the mission of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians and continue to strive to:

  • increase the knowledge of swine veterinarians,
  • protect and promote the health and well-being of pigs,
  • advocate science-based approaches to veterinary, industry, and public health issues,
  • promote the development and availability of resources that enhance the effectiveness of professional activities,
  • create opportunities that inspire personal and professional growth and interaction, and
  • mentor students, encouraging life-long careers as swine veterinarians.

As a vet-partner at the Fairmont Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Kurt describes his job and responsibility as, "Helping the pig to win." He focuses on swine health and production with an emphasis on ventilation and nutrition.

In his spare time, Dr. Kurt enjoys supporting his family in their activities.
