Position Announcement: Associate Swine Veterinarian

We are currently looking for an Associate Swine Veterinarian to join our team in Veterinary Services. The Associate Veterinarian in this position would report to the Managing Partners of South West Vets.

Responsibilities of this position may include (but are not limited to):

  • Collaboration with the South West support team assigned to each client, to achieve the best results possible in animal health, production, quality and care
  • On farm support of the Canadian Pork Excellence food safety program, by means of site assessments and evaluations
  • Literature review in support of Partners' speaking engagements
  • Find opportunities and work with stakeholders to develop plans which proactively improve the health of client herds, including biosecurity and vaccination support
  • Assist in improving the production and profitability of client operations
  • Assist in training on correct animal husbandry practices
  • Perform diagnosis of health challenges, develop treatment plans in conjunction with clients and assist in implementation on farm
  • Provide a summary of site visits for inclusion in client files
  • Remain informed about industry developments, scientific breakthroughs and best practices
  • Support and advocate for the highest standard in animal welfare as well as the pursuit of raising swine for meat
  • Activities in support of these duties can include: farm visits, on farm training, animal posting, slaughter checks, lifting and securing animals, and paperwork as required

Qualifications

  • Ability to develop and maintain trusting and effective internal and external relationships
  • Support and encourage a positive culture while driving for the best results possible in all situations
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree
  • Licensure to practice in the province of Ontario
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Prior experience in the veterinary field is preferred, but not required
