Get to Know Your AASV District Director - Gene Nemechek

Gene Nemechek is the District 2 AASV Director, representing members from the Southeastern United States, including North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi, and Puerto Rico. Dr. Nemechek has held this role since 2014, with his second term expiring in 2020.

Dr. Nemechek received his DVM from Kansas State University in 1976 and has been an AASV member since 1978. As a Pork Technical Services Veterinarian for Zoetis, he provides technical support to swine veterinarians and pork customers.

Beginning his journey in AASV leadership to become more involved and to try to make a difference in leading the organization, Dr. Nemechek has been a member of both the program planning and welfare committees and represented District 2 on the Board of Directors during 1992-1999. In the next year, Dr. Nemechek hopes to see AASV lead the pork industry in the prevention of and preparation for African swine fever and other foreign animal diseases.

When asked for advice he would give to other members, Dr. Nemechek urges, "Volunteer, get involved in our Association, and make a difference."

In his spare time, Dr. Nemechek enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, woodworking, and bee keeping.
