17-19 July: Rebuilding China’s Sow Herd, Enable International Veterinary School, Beijing

Enable AgTech of Beijing announces Enable International Veterinary School (EIVS) for veterinarians, technical experts, and production managers in pig production and allied fields. The first module in the Certificate training series is "Rebuilding China's Sow Herd" and will be held 17-19 July 2019 in Beijing Changping.

The vision of EIVS is to prepare more and more comprehensive multidisciplinary systems thinkers for the Chinese Pig Industry. The new generation expert must able to understand the interplay of genetics, nutrition, animal environments, and classical infectious disease in producing the syndromes that we see. Participants who attend our full series of modules will improve their understanding and capability in pig nutrition, genetics, reproductive physiology, statistical epidemiology, databases and data analysis, animal housing structures and environmental control systems, biosecurity, virology, microbiology, pathology, animal welfare, personnel management, business ethics, and economics.

EIVS will achieve its goals by providing uniquely focused programs that bring the participants into challenging and informative interactive classroom sessions with top experienced international and local instructors and consultants who are leaders in their fields of specialization. A series of 2-3 day modules covering key topics will be held periodically over the course of several months in this first phase of our new program.

Rebuilding China's Sow Herd (Module I) is timely considering the impact of African Swine Fever. But also timeless because of the fundamental way that the management of the sow herd sets in place the structure and function of the pig production system. Lecturers Tony Edwards (Consulting Nutritionist, Australia), Tim Safranski (Swine Breeding Specialist, Missouri), and E. Wayne Johnson (DVM, Beijing) will present:

  • Nutrition and practical diets for optimum reproduction
  • Sow housing, gilt selection, genetics sourcing, and pig reproduction
  • Diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of sows including ASF and other transboundary and common conditions.
  • Evening sessions will feature industry overviews (17th) and new technologies (18th) with key guest speakers.

Registration of $425 for the 17-19 July 2019 module includes admission, lunches and dinners, certificate of participation, and a copy of the proceedings.
