Limited Seats Left for Seventh Swine EVP at Illinois

Only a few spots remain in the next the Executive Veterinary Program: Swine Health Management course. The roster includes seasoned as well as up-and-coming swine professionals from 11 states and Brazil. The class is made up of representatives from consulting practices, production companies, genetics companies, and the pharmaceutical industry.

The program will launch on August 1, 2019, at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in Urbana, Ill., and will meet every other month through February 5, 2021.

Enrollment is capped at 40 participants to ensure the quality of group interaction.

"The value of the EVP experience derives as much from the individuals in the seats as it does from the speakers at the front of the room," said Dr. Larry Firkins, professor at the Illinois college. Dr. Firkins is one of the coordinators of the program as well as a graduate of the first offering of EVP: Swine, in 1991.

Since the program was introduced at Illinois by Dr. LeRoy Biehl 28 years ago, the EVP credential has become synonymous with impact and influence in swine medicine. There have been 222 EVP: Swine graduates so far. The seventh class will include the third participant who also had a parent complete the program.

Graduates of EVP report that the program equips them to manage ongoing and new challenges in the swine industry. The experience leads to improved critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as a close-knit community of colleagues.
