AASV Foundation-funded Report Available: Monitoring ISU VDL Data for Signs of Emerging Diseases

The Swine Disease Reporting System (SDRS) is a Swine Health Information Center-funded collaborative project that aggregates swine diagnostic data from the Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, South Dakota State University Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory, University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, and Kansas State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The program produces monthly PDF reports, in addition to web dashboards describing dynamics of pathogen detection over time, specimen, age group, and geographical space. The project allows veterinarians and producers to understand macro-epidemiological aspects associated with the major swine pathogens affecting the US swine industry. The AASV Foundation recently funded a SDRS study intended to develop algorithms to detect significant changes in patterns of pathogen detection. The algorithm was developed and has been implemented to allow detecting significant increase in cases testing positive, or significant increase of cases testing negative for PRRSv, TGEv, PEDv, or PDCoV.
