Position Announcement: Genetic Herd Veterinarian

The Maschhoffs seeks a genetic herd veterinarian, based in southern Illinois.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

  • Monitor health and surveillance programs for TML's internal genetic operations and research herds
  • Review, advise, and work collaboratively throughout the business to implement bio-security practices
  • Communicate to internal regional customers health status information
  • Support and collaborate with the TML Sci-Tech team on research projects
  • Assist in the development, implementation and execution of practices and programs that support the business's animal welfare policy and promote societal acceptance
  • Collaborate in the development and execution of health strategies and programs that promote food safety and provide a residue free product to TML customers
  • Work collaboratively with the TML internal veterinary team and a team of consulting veterinarians to develop and implement an annual operating plan.
  • Work cohesively with the members of the Animal Care Team to ensure that the service division provides a comprehensive "best in class" animal care program.
  • Responsible for execution of a system that coordinates routine herd health activities including diagnostic monitoring, herd visit schedules, report management, and protocol distribution and updating.
  • Collaborate with Animal Care and production management to develop animal treatment, processing, and vaccination protocols on the basis of sound scientific Standard Operating Procedures and "return on investment" analysis.
  • Provide training on health and production protocol to a broad spectrum of production and management personnel.
  • Provide tactical "in barn" support of health strategy execution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree from an accredited veterinary college (DVM).
  • Related veterinary college classroom, lab, and intern pig management experience and a valid license to practice veterinary medicine in determined states in which TML has production involvement.
