Workshops will Develop Pork Security Plans

The University of Minnesota Extension Swine team, Dr. Dave Wright and the Minnesota Board of Animal Health are holding Secure Pork Supply workshops for producers in November and December. [Source: AgriNews, November 22, 2018]

Swine diseases and the threat of foreign animal diseases are a danger to U.S. pork production. If foot and mouth disease, classical swine fever or African swine fever would be found on a farm, regulatory official would limit the movement of animals and animal products to try to control these contagious diseases.

The Secure Pork Supply plan provides for producers' continuity of business in the event of an outbreak. Voluntary creation of a farm-specific SPS plan will allow farms with healthy animals to continue to transport pigs to market or to another farms.

Workshops will be held:

Dec. 5, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at McLeod County Fairgrounds meeting room Building, 840 Century Ave. S.W., Hutchinson.

Dec. 6, 9 a.m. to noon, United Farmers Cooperative office, 705 E. Fourth St., Winthrop.

Dec. 13, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Rushford Community Center, 43038 State Highway 30 W., Rushford Village.

Dec. 14, 9 a.m. to noon, City Center Building, 138 Highway Ave. S., Blooming Prairie.

Participants are asked to bring a personal or farm laptop, copies of the farm's standard operating procedures (SOPs), and the site's national Premises ID number and 911 address.

Cost for the workshop is $15 per person which includes materials and refreshments.
