Tune In on October 17 for SMECast Swine Medicine Talk

AASV and the Swine Medicine Education Center (SMEC) at Iowa State University (ISU) are excited to extend the invitation for all AASV members view the Swine Medicine Talks: An AASV and SMECast Series for Veterinary Students!

The Swine Medicine Talks is a 3-part swine medicine seminar series, hosted by the AASV student chapter and SMEC at ISU and funded by the AASV Student Recruitment Committee. The series is available by live audio/video stream to other veterinary schools across North America and to AASV members, and it is completely free! All you need is Internet, the free Zoom application (which you will be prompted to download when you join the meeting below), and audio and video on your computer.

The first lecture of the school year will be Wednesday, October 17th at 6:00 PM CDT. Rick Swalla, a Senior Technical Services Veterinarian for Zoetis will be presenting on "The Diversity of a Swine Veterinarian" for our first 2018-2019 Swine Medicine Talks webinar. Dr. Swalla is a 1992 ISU DVM graduate, has practiced for 7 years in Iowa, returned to work in the ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory for 2 years, spent 7 years with Murphy-Brown and 2 years with M2P2, and for the past 8 years has been a Senior Technical Services Vet for Pfizer/Zoetis. His presentation will provide an overview of the day-to-day descriptions of the different jobs and opportunities available to veterinarians in the swine industry, the classes/rotations/specialties that will help you diversify and excel in your different career opportunities, continuing education options, and advice to students as they determine their career paths within the veterinary field.
