Position Announcement: Chief Executive Officer

Prairie Swine Centre Inc. (PSC) is a unique research, knowledge transfer and training company focused on the Canadian pork industry with an operating budget approaching $4 million annually. This not-for-profit corporation has been delivering world-class expertise in support of applied production research for 25 years. The PSC farm, facilities, and offices are located near Floral, SK (approx. 10 km east of Saskatoon) and is affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan. A Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is required to lead the organization of 30+ employees with a continued focus on stakeholder knowledge transfer, applied research, pork production, and the development of highly qualified people.

As the CEO, you report to the Board of Directors and collaborate with the Board to develop and implement the vision and strategic plan for the organization. You are a dynamic and creative strategic thinker, capable of understanding and aligning the goals of stakeholders within PSC and developing proactive and innovative strategies to strengthen services, build business, and move PSC forward as a world-class knowledge development and transfer company.

Using your strategic leadership, management, and business savvy skills, you will:

  • Facilitate the development of applied research in areas of priority to the Canadian swine industry, with emphasis on economic evaluation and knowledge transfer as key components in supporting a dynamic Canadian pork industry.
  • Lead and coach a team of highly skilled scientists, communicators, technical, and administrative staff who are involved in research, pork production, teaching, industry, and academic communications.
  • Oversee and motivate personnel in the areas of business development, finance, and administration.
  • Implement effective human resources management strategies, including the ability to clearly articulate expectations, effectively manage conflict, and ensure feedback and development is occurring.
  • Develop a diversified funding plan to support growth.
  • Ensure the PSC structure and operation is efficient and aligned with strategic plans and financial resources.
  • Build and maintain collaborative and value-added working relationships with all aspects of the Canadian pork industry, province, and the university.
  • Represent the interests of PSC as part of the national network of research centres and universities focused on swine production research and knowledge transfer and act as a spokesperson for PSC at public, industry, and community events.

As the ideal candidate, you may have an advanced degree in an agriculture discipline (MSc, PhD, DVM) or equivalent combined with a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) and five or more years of business leadership experience. Alternatively, you may have a Bachelor's degree in animal/life science or equivalent and ten years of progressive experience in leadership roles for the agriculture or government sectors with a focus on animal agriculture. With a broad understanding and global perspective on business, agriculture, and animal health, you are ready for your next leadership role.
