Position Announcement: Pork, Technical Services Veterinarian

Zoetis seeks a Pork Technical Services Veterinarian, to be located in southwest Minnesota, northwest Iowa, or southeast South Dakota. This position is the primary veterinary support of Zoetis products and services to the commercial swine industry in the United States. This position has key face-to-face interaction with customers (internally and externally) in communicating the technical and economic rationale of disease control strategies, vaccination, vaccination programming, medication, and other services provided by the company. As a key team member of a sales and technical organization, this position trains and maximizes our field force's knowledge of vaccines, swine health programs, injectable anti-infective, medicated feed additives, responsible use of antibiotics, pig care, caregiver programs and swine production.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

External Customer Solutions

  • Provide professional, timely and credible technical advice to help solve customer problems through:
    1. broad knowledge of economically relevant diseases and syndromes associated with swine medicine
    2. basic knowledge of epidemiology, population medicine and research trial design and interpretation
    3. mastery of technical information associated with entire Zoetis pork portfolio
    4. firm understanding of competitive animal health products
  • Provide solutions to pork customers through unparalleled understanding of the science and development of Zoetis products and services
  • Enhance the professional and scientific image of Zoetis Pork Technical Services
  • Collaborate with key customers providing exceptional customer service
  • Understand the varying business models of veterinarians and producers, and utilize this information to apply solutions to improve animal health and wellbeing and economic growth
  • Understand the relative impact of animal health, nutrition and other management factors that contribute to the overall success of our customer's success
  • Identify, navigate and leverage intangible issues that are relevant to our customer's operation such as marketing goals, regulatory concerns and interpersonal relationships within an account's management
  • Actively participate in select veterinary and professional organization meetings and seminars in order to develop and enhance personal and Zoetis Technical Services expertise
  • Assist in preparation of and delivery of technical presentation to external audiences
  • Serve as team lead along with Veterinary Medical Investigation and Product Support (VMIPS) on routine inquiries as well as investigations into customer complaints

Internal Customers

  • Support and educate the Team Pork sales force in the proper use and placement of Zoetis products and services
  • Collaborate with Strategic Account Managers and Territory Business Managers on key account management and/or territory account management, including account planning and execution
  • Serve as a scientific and technical advisor to operations personnel on matters related to swine production and veterinary medicine
  • Assist in preparation and deliver technical presentations to internal audiences
  • Advise and assist Zoetis Learning and Development on the technical content of training programs
  • Work effectively in a matrix organization through collaborations with Sales, Marketing, Veterinary Medical Investigations and Product Support, Commercial Development and Life Cycle Management, Veterinary Medicine Research and Development and other cross-functional teams
  • Contribute technical expertise and customer insights on Brand Teams as needed

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required job related candidate qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent
  • 5 years or more industry experience in practice or production systems

Preferred candidate qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MS, MBA) and/or Board Certification in recognized veterinary specialty

Required technical skills

  • Strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with various stakeholders
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft office suite and ability to learn Zoetis internal systems
  • Ability to collaborate and effectively work within cross-functional teams
  • Strong relationship building skills

Preferred technical skills

  • Excellent judgment in conflict management and influence
  • Research experience, published scientific papers
  • Proven record of accomplishments, demonstrating successful veterinarian practice management, strategy execution experience and leadership
  • Ability to think and act strategically
  • Ability to interact with and influence Senior Management, peers, and other functions

PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Sitting at conferences and meetings, sitting in front of a computer
  • Walking through or standing at swine barns for few hours
  • Minimal lifting
  • Travelling by car and air, driving
  • Occasionally attending weekend industry meetings
  • Limited international travelling
