2017 ISU James D. McKean Swine Disease Conference

The Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, the Iowa Pork Industry Center, The Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV), District 6, sponsor the ISU James D. McKean Swine Disease Conference. The conference was renamed in 2015 after the death of longtime conference chair, Dr. James D. McKean, and was previously known as the Annual Swine Disease Conference for Swine Practitioners. The conference will be held at the Scheman Building, in Ames, Iowa, on November 2-3, 2017.

The program is designed to answer daily concerns of swine practitioners.

This year's conference is going to cover issues relating to improvements in the ISU VDL's case submission and reporting technology up grades as well as updates on VFD implementation, non-antibiotic alternatives as well as a panel of veterinarians discussing experiences with antibiotic free production (ABF). There will also be practitioner experiences with Influenza, positive pressure filtration of breeding herds, Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae planned exposures and persistent shedding as well as PRRS research updates as well. We will cover risk assessments for antibiotic resistance as well as the state of the herd health in Asia as well.

We are also pleased to announce that we will be holding 3 pre-conference workshops on the Wednesday afternoon prior to the beginning of the main conference. These workshops will cover bioinformatics tools for Influenza analysis, serological and surveillance monitoring and an interactive diagnostic work shop to be held with the pathologists at the VDL.

We hope to see you in Ames on November 2nd and 3rd!
